I'm not crazy about sewing on buttons, either. Frankly, there are times that an otherwise complete garment languishes for months in my linen closet, because it has no buttons. When I do finally sew them, I do have a little trick that makes the final result more pleasant.

I was going to do something else this week. Something practical. I had it all worked out. Instead, something else just popped into my head. I described it to someone on Friday, and said that it would probably be months before I got around to knitting it. I typed up some notes about it, and filed it with my other pending project ideas.

“Are you Rhea?” Ruth Malich asked as she greeted me at the entryway of her new home. Her hair had Laura Ingalls-style braids that were pinned around the top of her head. She held a small bag with green yarn peeking out the top. “Yes,” I replied. “Are you Ruth?” She was, and after she gave me a quick tour of Georgetown Place Retirement Community’s first floor, we headed to her apartment to talk about her life as a crafter.
